Carter Drops $500K Into Senate 10
Judge Mike Carter dropped a bomb into the Republican Senate 10 primary yesterday. He formed his candidate committee and wrote a $500,000 check.
He’ll be leading the cash on-hand in that primary when we see April reports next week. This makes Bryan Spencer’s earlier ante of $100,000 look like chump change.
Missouri Senate Passes Sen. Eric Burlison’s Congressional Term Limits Proposal
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Eric Burlison, R-Battlefield, is proud to announce that Senate Concurrent Resolution 25 was passed by the Missouri Senate on April 14. This resolution calls for an Article V convention of the states to impose term limits on members of Congress. The Missouri General Assembly has previously adopted similar resolutions relating to Article V conventions.
“My intent with SCR 25 is to give states an avenue to place term limits on members of Congress and require a balanced budget at the federal level, but other amendments could be proposed if a convention convenes. It is up to the commissioners from each state to decide which amendments are proposed,” Sen. Burlison said. “The federal government has grown too large and powerful, and because I do not think Congress will limit its own power, an Article V convention is the only way for states to achieve their goal of congressional term limits. At the end of the day, an Article V convention gives states the ability to reclaim some of their power that has been taken from them by the federal government.”
Senate Concurrent Resolution 25 will now be sent to the Missouri House of Representatives for its consideration.

House Passes Bill That Could Limit Unemployment Benefits
Under a bill passed by the Missouri House on Thursday, unemployed residents could be limited to receiving benefits for as little as eight weeks.
The amount of time an insured worker can receive unemployment is determined by the average unemployment rate in the state. As the average unemployment rate goes down, so does the number of weeks a person can draw unemployment benefits. For example, a person can receive 20 weeks of unemployment if the average unemployment rate is higher than 9% but only 13 weeks if the rate is less than 6%.
HB 1860, proposed by Rep. J. Eggleston, R-Maysville, sets tighter limits on the number of weeks a person can draw benefits when the state has low unemployment rates. If the rate is 3.5% or less, for example, they could receive eight weeks of benefits. With Missouri’s latest unemployment rate of 3.7%, eligible individuals could draw benefits for nine weeks. In committee, proponents of the bill said it would incentivize people to rejoin the workforce when there are more jobs available. “This will help get those who are out of work back to work, help our struggling employers find and fill the many job openings that we have, and help our Missouri economy improve,” Eggleston said Thursday, noting the bill has been in development for years.
