Missouri Voters Will Need Photo ID if Gov. Parson Signs Election Bill

Missouri voters will be required to show photo identification to vote in November's midterm elections if Republican Gov. Mike Parson signs a 58-page election bill into law. House Bill 1878, sponsored by Rep. John Simmons, R-Washington, will require persons seeking to vote to show photo identification. If they don't have photo identification, they can cast a provisional ballot and return before the polls close at 7 p.m. with photo identification. Or, the ballot will be counted if the person's signature matches the signature on file with the election authority. "I think the passage of a very strong election integrity bill is probably the single biggest highlight we had," said Sen. Bob Onder, R-Lake St. Louis.

Republicans Have Turnout Advantage In Primaries So Far

Republicans are already seeing a huge advantage in turnout during the 2022 primaries, according to one pollster. In Tuesday’s primary elections in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Kentucky, Idaho, and Oregon, Republicans made up 54.9% of the total votes cast, according to John Couvillon, founder of the polling firm JMC Analytics. When factoring in the other five states that have already held primaries — Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska, and West Virginia, Republicans account for fully 60% of votes cast in the primaries so far. “In every state where I’ve been measuring turnout changes relative to previous midterms, I’m seeing a clear advantage on the Republican side,” Couvillon told the New York Post Wednesday...

Couvillon also shared his data on Twitter Wednesday. According to the data, overall turnout in the 10 states that have already had primaries was up 21% from 2018, which he noted was a high turnout year in itself. But a partisan breakdown showed a massive advantage for Republicans — so far, Democratic turnout has totaled just under five million votes, while Republicans have cast nearly 7.5 million. In addition, Democratic turnout increased by just 3% over 2018, while Republican turnout increased by 38%.

“Biggest Fraud In A Generation”: It’s Only Your Money

Even the Washington Post has finally woken up to the astonishing scope of the waste, fraud, and abuse in the most reckless spending bill in American history: Biden's $1.9 trillion "COVID relief" bill. “Nothing like this has ever happened before,” says Matthew Schneider, a former U.S. attorney from Michigan. “It is the biggest fraud in a generation.” Hundreds of billions of COVID relief dollars have disappeared into the pockets of scammers and the undeserving. Of more than $700 billion in pandemic unemployment assistance Congress approved, an estimated $163 billion fell into the hands of foreign fraudsters, and most of that went to syndicates that have the backing of hostile governments. The bill's other programs had similar sky-high fraud rates. But even this mega fraud has its apologists. “I think it was well-intended to get relief out as quickly as possible to save lives,” Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland told the Washington Times. “And we recognize that too much of the accountability standards can slow down the process.” “Clearly, we’ve got to get that balance right,” he said. “And to the extent where we see these international crooks ripping us off, we didn’t get the balance correct.”

Oklahoma Passes Abortion Ban

Oklahoma lawmakers gave final approval to a Texas-style bill banning all abortions beginning at fertilization, Axios' Oriana Gonzalez reports. The law would take effect as soon as it's signed into law. Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) has said he'll sign any anti-abortion bill that comes to his desk.

Why it matters: It would be the most restrictive abortion law in the U.S. This is part of a state-by-state push by the GOP.

Oklahoma's near-total ban encourages private citizens to sue anyone suspected of helping a person get an abortion. The measure, H.B. 4327, incentivizes citizens to sue anyone who "performs or induces" or "aids of abets the performance" of an abortion. People can also be sued if they "[intend] to engage" in those actions, but haven't yet done so. Citizens would be awarded at least $10,000 for successfully suing an abortion provider. The law could affect embryos created through the IVF process and some forms of birth control. The bill doesn't apply to contraception. The bill bars those who are sued from arguing the law is unconstitutional as a defense in court.
