Battle for the Soul of St. Charles
St. Charles this August appears to be a microcosm of the split the Missouri Republican Party is facing. Aggressive, Conservative Caucus-esque candidates are facing off against traditional Republicans. The showdown between Sen. Bob Onder and St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann was expected to be the marquee race among these races. Onder withdrew on the last possible day citing bad timing for his family. But it remains the archetype of these races. Ehlmann was considered a competent and stalwart Republican. St. Charles has experience continuous growth during his tenure, and there have been no scandals – something that can’t be said for its neighbors in St. Louis County and St. Louis City. But Onder was running to his right saying Ehlmann wasn’t conservative enough – citing his response to the COVID crisis.
One of the simmering issues is a proposal by Sen. Bill Eigel to phase out the county’s personal property tax. Some conservatives find the tax an affront to their sensibilities. They ask, “if I have to pay the government every year for something I own, do I ever really own it?” Meanwhile the Republicans who have served on school board or on city councils tend to be skeptical of tax cuts. “Yeah, yeah that’s cute,” they might reply, “but we need money to run the basic services that people expect.”
Races to watch… Senate 2: Onder has endorsed Rep. Nick Schroer as his replacement. Schroer has confrontational style in tune with the Senate’s Conservative Caucus, while Rep. John Wiemann – a conservative in anyone’s book – is less bellicose. Continue reading here.
The 100 Insider: Rep. John Wiemann is the establishment pick and will most likely receive support from the Right Path PAC (a group of investors from WashU that need establishment Republicans to continue running the state so that funding for WashU being used for things such as teaching abortions does not get cut).
[Opinion] Government needs to stop printing money and free up the market
By Mo. Rep. Curtis Trent & Rep. Billy Long
The price of gas and groceries is rapidly increasing as inflation begins to reach levels not seen in America for decades. Missouri families are hurting and the pain will soon spread to the core of the economic engine we all depend on for our way of life. Our “ruling class,” the deep state bureaucrats that fought against president Trump’s America First economic policy, are trying to blame everything from Putin to COVID for this growing problem. They should try looking in the mirror.
Celebrated economist Milton Friedman is credited with saying that inflation is “always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon.” The law of supply and demand works for money too. When the Federal Reserve creates more money it decreases the value of the money that already exists. Government gets the benefit of spending that money while those of us who save, invest or consume lose wealth. Inflation is theft from all of us by the government and the politically-connected cronies who manipulate the government for their advantage.

Hundreds line up after independent Kansas City gas station offers gas for $2.12 per gallon
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A gas station in Kansas City, Missouri, wanted to provide a little bit of relief to drivers Wednesday. FavTrip, located at 9500 Blue Ridge Blvd., announced last night it would sell gas to motorists for $2.12 per gallon between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The promotion was for regular unleaded gas only, and gas cans and RVs weren’t allowed. Babir Sultaon, the owner of the independent gas station, said he partnered with the Missouri chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a 501(c)(4) organization in the promotion.

Florida Republicans Among Lawmakers That Sound Alarm On Ammo Plant Shutdown [Featuring Amo Plant in Northwest Missouri]
The Biden administration has taken a new, more subtle tack toward gun control. Choke off the supply of ammunition. And Republicans are demanding answers. The conservative website The Federalist recently reported that the White House plans to shut down an ammo plant in northwestern Missouri. The factory has supplied bullets to the U.S. military since 1941. It’s owned by the federal government, but operated by Winchester, according to The Federalist. Under the gunmaker’s deal with the feds, the company can sell off any excess it makes after supplying the troops. The factory makes the M855 5.56mm/.223-caliber rounds used with the most popular rifle in America: the AR-15 and comparable models.

RightPath Starts Spending War Chest
The RightPath PAC has started spending some of its massive war chest. This week Uniting Missouri PAC, the governor’s PAC, reported receiving $20K from RightPath. And, Lincoln PAC, supporting Sen. Lincoln Hough, reported a $50K contribution from RightPath. (Although it hasn’t been report to the Missouri Ethics Commission yet, I’m told that the PAC associated with Sen. Mike Cierpiot received a $25,000 check from the RightPath PAC. Cierpiot, who faces a primary challenger, would be the second Republican senator who the behemoth PAC is backing.)
According to April campaign finance filings, RightPath PAC – funded largely by wealthy individuals associated with Washington University – had nearly $2.5 million cash onhand, more than any other PAC in the state. In other words, there’s a lot more money to flow. The primary is now about six weeks away.

BREAKING: SUPREME COURT REVERSES ROE v. WADE – ABORTION RETURNED TO THE STATES
Alito asserted that Roe was “egregiously wrong” and “on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it was decided.” Laws related to abortion will now be returned to the states to decide. Justice Alito added that the Roe court “usurped the power to address a question of profound moral and social importance that the Constitution unequivocally leaves for the people.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” the ruling stated. Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan filed a joint dissent. “Whatever the exact scope of the coming laws, one result of today’s decision is certain: the curtailment of women’s rights, and of their status as free and equal citizens,” the dissenters wrote.
