New Missouri Photo ID Law Doesn’t Affect Aug. 2 Election — What The Changes Mean For Voters
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson signed a new law that will make some major changes to the voting process in Missouri starting Aug. 28. These changes will not impact the upcoming Aug. 2 primary election. The new law will require voters who vote without a photo ID to use a provisional ballot. Right now, Missouri voters need to show a form of ID, but it doesn’t need to be a photo ID. The law will prohibit touch screen voting machines after 2024 and will allow the Missouri secretary of state to audit voter rolls. It also gets rid of presidential primaries and replaces them with caucuses. And it gives voters two weeks to vote absentee with no excuse before each election. Again, these changes will not impact the upcoming Aug. 2 primary election, but the law will be in effect come the Nov. 8 general election. Here’s a breakdown of what voters should know for both the August and November elections.

Parson Signs Missouri Budget, But Trims $640 Million, Including Money For Tax Rebates
Despite having a more than $1 billion surplus in the state’s general checkbook, Gov. Mike Parson used his veto pen Thursday to slash more than $640 million in spending sought by Missouri lawmakers. The Republican governor targeted more than three dozen priorities inserted into the $49 billion spending plan by lawmakers who argued in May that the state’s revenue was healthy enough to expand the budget. Among the cuts were $500 million for tax rebates for Missouri taxpayers, $83 million for a new training facility for state highway patrol officers and $10 million for charter schools to maintain their facilities. The rebate plan would have sent up to $500 rebates to taxpayers earning up to $150,000 annually, but Parson said the concept was flawed. There were smaller projects on the chopping block too, including $4.5 million to build new sidewalks in the Affton School District in south St. Louis County.

The 100 Insider: There is nothing conservative about the Missouri state budget. Over the last 8 years of being governed by Republicans we have seen the budget increase ….. In a nutshell, spending more makes things more expensive, causes chronic inefficiencies and leads to more debt and financial bubbles because government spending is always oftest by citizen taxes. Missouri needs to become less dependent on government dollars and more accountable for how the money is being used.
Off Season Educational Resource: How Missouri’s Legislative Branch Works
By The Constitutional Coalition
For just a few minutes, let’s pretend that we are in fourth grade. We’ve learned about the regions and the people of the United States, researched population density, studied agriculture of the Midwest, looked at water usage, geography and history of Missouri and worked to understand the economy of our state. And now, after we have scrutinized our state’s government, we are planning a train trip to the Capitol to see the lawmakers in action! What a trip across the state that will be! Let’s see how much we remember from our studies in Mrs. Roberts’ fourth grade Social Studies class while we’re at the Capitol:
What is the Missouri General Assembly? Missouri’s General Assembly serves as the legislative branch of the Show-Me State’s government and is the primary lawmaking body of the state. Much like the U.S. Congress, its federal counterpart, the General Assembly is bicameral — made up of two separate chambers, the House and Senate.

Cook Report Moves Six House Races Toward GOP
Source: The Hill
The Cook Political Report updated its rating on eight House races on Tuesday, moving six of them in the direction of Republicans. The adjustments come as inflation remains at record highs and President Biden’s approval rating hovers just above 40 percent, according to the latest Gallup poll. The six races that Cook updated in favor of Republicans include four in California, one in Pennsylvania and one in Rhode Island. One of the seats that Cook shifted in the GOP’s direction is Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, which Rep. Jim Langevin (D) currently represents. Langevin, who is not running for reelection, has held the seat for 20 years and a Democrat has held the seat for 30 years. Cook moved the race from leans Democrat to a toss-up race. Cook also shifted two House races in favor of the Democratic candidate, moving Rep. Kevin Calvert’s (R) race in California’s 41st Congressional District from likely Republican to lean Republican and Rep. María Elvira Salazar’s (R) race in Florida’s 27th Congressional District from solidly Republican to likely Republican. Dave Wasserman, Cook’s senior editor for the House, concluded that early district-level polling paints a “bleak picture” for House Democrats with Biden’s approval rating still poor in competitive districts. He said more time is needed to determine if the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade could fuel Democratic turnout and narrow an enthusiasm advantage that Republicans currently have.
