Happy Constitution Day!

Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution—the most influential document in American History. It is normally observed on September 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia.

CANCEL CULTURE KEHOE

By Jim Lembke

The Missouri senate exploded on Wednesday at the annual “veto session” when Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe decided to “cancel” Sen. Mike Moon and his 180,000 constituents.  Contrary to senate rules, Kehoe refused to recognize Moon for a motion to override a veto by the governor. When asked why the presiding Lt. Governor would not recognize the senator, Kehoe simply replied “tradition”.

This is the greatest power grab in the history of the Missouri senate. The good news was Senator Moon and the Conservative Caucus were by no means going to let Cancel Culture Kehoe get away with this orchestrated power grab.

That’s right! The entire episode was planned out from the beginning between Senators Dave Schatz, Caleb Rowden and Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe.

The reason I know this to be so, is that Senator Moon and Senator Brattin both went to the bill handler to ask if he would make the motion out of respect for so called “senate tradition”. Senator Hegeman communicated he would NOT make a motion to override his republican governor.

What makes this situation different from the normal protocol is this was “veto session” and these were line item vetoes on appropriation bills.

The line item important to senator Moon dealt with $150k of illegally collected taxes from small businesses by the Missouri Department of Revenue and this line would have made them whole. The other line item supported by Sen. Brattin was a pilot program in Lincoln County to assist law enforcement in bringing sex offenders of children to justice.

Here is the bottom line. The constitution and the senate rules always trump “tradition”. Whether it is Cancel Culture Kehoe or whoever is presiding if they have the ability to not recognize a senator, any senator, then a state senator has about the same power to stop the tyranny of the majority as a rank and file House member.

If this happens to our Missouri senate, it will be the destruction of the republican principles of defending Life, Liberty and Property. God help us all.

Senate leadership earned straight D’s. Something tells us that won’t be hanging on any refrigerators.

Missouri House Issues Letter to Biden Administration over Vaccine Mandate

Members of the Missouri House Republican Caucus sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling on the nation’s leader to provide his legal justification for a proposed vaccine mandate for private businesses. The letter refers to the president’s directive as “an egregious overreach of federal authority” and as “blatantly unconstitutional.”

The letter notes the U.S. Constitution limits the power of the federal government and protects the authority of states to enact laws to provide for the public health. It also cites case law and legal precedent to support his position that the U.S. Supreme Court has never allowed the federal government to usurp the powers of the states when it comes to public health.

The letter states, “No existing federal law imposes vaccination requirements on the general population, and for good reason. The authority to do so is nonexistent. Even Congress lacks the authority to enact a policy like the president intends to impose.”

With the letter, the three House leaders call on President Biden to provide sufficient legal basis for the “proposed directive that appears to trample on the constitutional rights of American citizens.”

The letter states, “Should you not be able to provide sufficient legal justification, which ostensibly does not exist, we demand that you immediately rescind your directive to OSHA regarding the order.”

Eight Reasons to Love the Constitution

“On this 234th Constitution Day, conservatives — indeed, every American — should reflect on our great Founding text.”

Choose the Rule of Law over the Rule of Men

“Our Constitution is under attack, or so we constantly hear from both sides of the aisle. Of course, this rare instance of bipartisanship is quite shallow, since the different sides don’t see a common source or content to the threat they perceive; they simply view the other side itself as the threat.”

The Future of Conservative Constitutionalism

“The ambitious project of constitutional restoration that has occupied a portion of the American Right for generations now finds itself at a peculiar crossroads.

On the one hand, the effort to transform the courts, which has been at the center of this project for half a century, has reached an impressive high-water mark. Launched in response to the pernicious overreach of the Warren and Burger courts, this effort sought nothing less than to recover an understanding of the proper role of the judge, which had been utterly lost, and to put it into practice.”
