Candidates Have Spent Hundreds Of Thousands In 10th Senate District Race

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are flowing in the race for Missouri's 10th Senate District. The five Republicans running for the seat have employed a mix of approaches for raising and spending the dollars. State Reps. Travis Fitzwater, R-Holts Summit, and Jeff Porter, R-Montgomery City, are running to represent the newly formed district, as is former state Rep. Bryan Spencer, R-Wentzville, and Wentzville Judge Mike Carter. Joshua Price, an auto shop worker from Mexico, Missouri, was drawn outside the district but has also filed to run. Those five Republicans are competing for the party nomination decided by the Aug. 2 primary election, after which the nominee will face Libertarian candidate Catherine Dreher in the Nov. 8 general election. Sen. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, currently holds the office, but faces term limits and cannot run for re-election. The most recent campaign finance filings with the Missouri Ethics Commission, submitted July 15, show some candidates have spent hundreds of thousands.

Missouri Posts Record Surplus For Second Straight Year

Missouri has more money in the bank than ever before. New data shows Missouri closed out its 2022 fiscal year with a general revenue balance of nearly $4.9 billion. That’s more than double the previous record set just one year ago. State Budget Director Dan Haug said inflation drove up state sales tax collections while pay raises for many workers meant they also paid more in state income taxes. He said an influx of federal funds from pandemic relief laws and Medicaid expansion also meant Missouri had to spent fewer state dollars on some things.

How Inflation Is Affecting Your Wallet At The Ballpark Concession Stand This Season

It's costing more to root, root, root for the home team, especially if you want to pony up for peanuts and Cracker Jack. A maelstrom of complications -- including COVID-19-driven supply-chain disruptions, skyrocketing fuel prices and additional spending cash available to consumers from U.S. government stimulus programs -- has contributed to the rate of inflation hitting a four-decade high of 9.1% in June. The effects have rippled through consumer prices, from gas to groceries -- and to the price of ballpark concessions. ESPN polled the five hospitality vendors who supply food and beverages for MLB's 30 teams -- Sodexo Live!, Levy, Aramark, Legends and Delaware North -- as well as team representatives to collect pricing data for a hot dog, nachos with cheese, Cracker Jack, domestic light beer, bottled water and soda at all 30 parks.

[Opinion] States Must Stand Up Against The Biden Takeover Of Elections

Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated Independence Day, a day to remember our national values of freedom and self-governance. But while families everywhere were firing up the grill and watching firework displays, few realized that a government-sponsored attempt to undermine our free and fair elections was already underfoot. President Biden’s agenda — to infiltrate state-run elections with a bureaucratic “get-out-the-vote” scheme — came about last year when he issued Executive Order 14019. The unprecedented executive order, which directs federal agencies to adopt and execute plans to expand voter registration and voter participation, contained few details, but left little to the imagination. An administration seeking to stop the anticipated red wave in November would do well to have a Democrat get-out-the-vote campaign at every intersection the federal government has with American citizens. There’s only one problem with this plan: It’s unconstitutional.
