Who Is Running In CD 7 In Missouri To Replace Billy Long?

A handful of Republicans are vying to replace Congressman Billy Long after he jumped into a crowded GOP primary for U.S. Senate.  And a theme has emerged among the GOP contenders: most are current or former state senators.

Missouri’s 7th congressional district — as it stands now — is deeply red and nestled in the southwest corner of Missouri and includes Springfield and Branson. It is the seat formerly held by outgoing Republican Senator Roy Blunt whose decision not to run for re-election set off the campaign domino effect in Missouri.

Here’s a look at the Republican contenders for the seat.

Trump Rallies In Iowa As He Eyes 2022 And 2024.

Former President Trump took aim at the massive spending bill that President Biden and congressional Democrats are trying to pass into law, charging it's a "monstrosity" and "so dangerous for our country." Trump's attacks on the multitrillion-dollar human infrastructure, social spending and climate change package came as he held a rally in Iowa on Saturday. It was the former president's first stop in the competitive Central Plains state since last year’s election. Iowa is also the state whose caucuses have kicked off the presidential nomination calendar for the past half-century, and Trump's stop sparked more speculation he'll make another White House run in 2024. Iowa was once a key battleground state, but Trump comfortably won it during his 2016 and 2020 campaigns. He arrived in the Hawkeye State days after scoring his best favorable ratings ever in the Des Moines Register poll, which is considered the gold standard in this neck of the woods. Fifty-three percent of Iowans had a favorable view of the former president and 45% hold an unfavorable view, according to the Des Moines Register/Mediacom survey released Monday. And among Republicans only, he was at a sky high 91% favorability. Trump touted the poll, saying "we’re at the highest we’ve ever been."

RNC Invests In Hispanic Outreach Ahead Of 2022

Hispanic and Latino voters helped give Republicans some of their biggest gains in the last election, and national Republicans are investing big in making relationships in the growing portion of the electorate ahead of the midterm elections and 2022. In a celebration of Hispanic heritage month, which runs Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the Republican National Committee is opening several “Hispanic community centers” and by the end of the month will have them in Doral, Florida; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Texas locations in McAllen, Laredo, and San Antonio. It marks the earliest in an election cycle that the RNC has ever opened these types of centers, and it is part of the party's multimillion-dollar minority outreach effort. “We're going have a place where not only we can convey our message to them, but we will also be able to listen to them and find out what is it that they expect from us from the party from their elected officials,” said Jaime Florez, the RNC’s Hispanic communications director. Like any political field office, the centers will be focused on recruiting and training volunteers, registering voters, and turning out voters during election season. But they aim to make the offices a more human, home base. .
