Parson Expected to Make Round of Appointments Today

Governor Parson is expected to make a round of appointments this week, as early as today, to fill a couple cabinet level positions.  It is rumored the State Representative, and former Senator, Wayne Wallingford will be headed to the Department of Revenue. Wallingford currently represents the Cape area.  Another name being mentioned is Judge Darrell Missey, of Jefferson County, who is expected to take a post at the Children’s Division.  If Judge Missey is appointed that would create a vacancy in the circuit and give Parson the opportunity to make another appointment.

A Broken Clock is Right Twice a Day…

The St. Louis Post Dispatch took after St. Louis County Executive Sam Page in a scathing editorial regarding corruption in the county under Page’s leadership.

“Speaking of corruption, incompetence and waste: St. Louis County.

County Executive Sam Page learned at the feet of the master — ex-County Executive and ex-con Steve Stenger — how not to run a local government. But Page started his new term this year in disastrous form. He botched a bid to rig a County Council vote so his ally could continue as council chair. The reverberations from that attempt to circumvent democracy continue even today as the rightful and correctly elected chair, Rita Heard Days, makes Page’s life hell at every opportunity.”

MO Department of Economic Development will Focus ARPA Funds on Broadband Infrastructure

Missouri’s Department of Economic Development (DED) is heading into the new year with an emphasis on broadband through a planned investment from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) leaders say would expand access and reliability for rural and urban areas alike.

Gov. Mike Parson unveiled plans for a historic $400 million broadband investment through ARPA in August while DED applied for an additional $56 million from the federal government to support nearly two dozen projects supporting more than 17,000 businesses, residences, and other institutions.

Legislature Heading Back to Session, SOTS Soon to Follow

The 2022 legislative session begins on Jan. 5th. Governor Parson will officially outline his budgetary priorities two weeks later during his annual State of the State address. The speech is set for 3 p.m. on Jan. 19, exactly two weeks after the legislative session gets underway.  However, ultimately it is up to the legislature to decide which, if any, of the priorities they will fund.
