The Woke Left Is Coming for Your Kids: How Critical Race Theory is Putting Us on a Dangerous Collision Course

Senator Andrew Koenig

For the better part of the summer, I have heard from hundreds of concerned parents about race-based curriculum being taught in their child’s school. Critical race theory is a radical Marxist ideology claiming America is a racist nation built on racist institutions and upheld by racist people. Supporters of critical race theory believe that to advance America culture, they must not change the way history is taught but destroy the system all together. Not only is this dangerous ideology a threat to our American culture but could dramatically change the very nature of our country.

For the last few decades, progressives have worked hard to corrupt our higher education system with anti-American and anti-capitalist curriculum, and now its bleeding into our K-12 public schools. Virtually all school districts insist they are not teaching critical race theory or the 1619 Project, but the truth is the principles of this radical movement are deeply rooted in many school’s curriculum.

For instance, Rockwood School District recently fired their literacy coordinator after she told teachers to hide certain race-based curriculum from parents. In Francis Howell School District, the curriculum-writing team plotted with a critical race theory advocate named Dr. LaGarett King to keep parents in the dark about their efforts to inject leftwing social justice advocacy into their classrooms. All of this was revealed in a leaked video from the curriculum writing team’s fall 2020 meeting. In the video King states that our social studies and history curriculum is political and racist, and there is no such thing as neutral history. He even justifies violence in the name of racial justice. It’s tragically ironic that King shares a surname with a true leader of the civil rights movement who demonstrated the power of non-violence and peaceful acts in achieving racial equality.

Ultimately, critical race theory reinforces stereotypes, shames meaningful dialogue, and worsens race relations. It separates our children based on their gender, race, and religion. It teaches white children that they are guilty of oppression and black children that they are victims of oppression. As the father of two black children, I would never want my son and daughter to be taught they were different or any less important because of the color of their skin. Nor would I want my three white children to feel guilt over their heritage. As the great Martin Luther King Jr said, “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I also want my children to grow up in a country that values them for their character and individuality. I want them to strive to achieve the American Dream because it exists for all of us, no matter our background. The truth is that country does exist, and it’s called the United States of America.

Our curriculum should inspire learning, foster curiosity and provide a strong foundation of understanding history that doesn’t push a political agenda. One thing is for certain. I will not continue to stand by and watch our children be indoctrinated to hate themselves and their country. On December 1st, my colleagues and I in the state legislature will begin introducing legislation to eliminate racially divisive curriculum in our public schools. I am committed to eliminating critical race theory and once and for all getting politics out of the classroom.

Biden's Vaccine Mandate will Worsen Hiring Crisis

President Joe Biden announced this week that he will sign an order mandating that all private companies with more than 100 employees require the workers to get the coronavirus vaccine. Putting aside the question of whether Biden has the authority to enforce such a mandate, there should be little doubt that this will make our already-dire employment crisis even worse. There is a reason companies such as Delta, Southwest, and American Airlines, and hospital systems across the country, are not mandating the vaccine despite external pressure to do so: They cannot afford to lose employees, but they reasonably fear they will lose some if they roll out a vaccine mandate. Indeed, a study last month found that 44% of employees across the country would quit their jobs if their employer mandated getting vaccinated. If this mandate goes into effect, tens of thousands of people will quit their jobs, and the industries that are already suffering from shortages will suffer even more.It is also possible that employers will cut jobs to avoid the mandate, just as they did with Obamacare’s employer mandate. A 2017 report found that small businesses seeking to avoid the mandate cut up to 250,000 full-time jobs. Altogether, between 28,000 and 50,000 small businesses reduced their number of full-time employees within a two-year period because of the mandate.

Republicans Explode with Fury Over Biden Vaccine Mandate

Republican members of Congress and state governors were appalled by news Thursday that President Joe Biden will force employers with more than 100 workers to require coronavirus vaccinations or test employees weekly, vowing to block the new policy and terming it unconstitutional. The mandate, which is expected to affect as many as 100 million Americans in an array of jobs, including health care, directly impacts the private sector. "This is absolutely unconstitutional," Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, wrote in a tweet, attaching a link to the news. "Mandates are not the answer," Rep. Neal Dunn, R-Fla., said in response. "Getting the vaccine should be up to you and your doctor — not the federal government." "All 9 million federal employees should consult with their doctor and make a personal, informed decision about taking the vaccine," wrote Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo. "Instead, Sleepy Joe says take it or else… You don’t lead by coercion. Biden has failed as a leader in every way." "This is unconstitutional," said Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala. "The U.S. Constitution does not give the President this type of authority. No where in Article 2 of the Constitution will you find anything that even remotely gives the President this kind of power."
